In May 2004, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) substantially approved many of the recommendations in Louisville International Airport's proposed Noise Compatibility (Part 150) Program. This approval affirmed four years of work by the 1,000-plus members of the Noise Compatibility Study Group to create a plan with the least amount of aircraft noise over the fewest number of families.
The Airport Authority also launched a state-of-the-art flight tracking system in 2004, which uses a unique "multi-lateration" process for tracking aircraft operations at Louisville International Airport and Bowman Field. This system allows users to view flight tracks and identify aircraft in near real-time or re-play mode. Information from two portable noise monitors also may be uploaded into the system to correlate aircraft noise with flight tracks and dates. The FAA also reaffirmed its continuing support for relocating the remaining eligible families in the airport's current voluntary residential program. (Follow this link for more information about the airport's voluntary residential relocation program.)
QuieterHome Program
As the airport continues to grow, it does so with the surrounding community in mind. The Residential Sound Insulation Program, also known as the QuieterHome Program, is the next step in the Airport authority's commitment to being a good neighbor. Community Noise Forum (CNF)
To monitor the implementation of the Noise Compatibility Program, the Louisville Regional Airport Authority (LRAA) convened a Community Noise Forum (CNF) that includes designated representatives from all airport stakeholders, including:

The LRAA’s Board of Directors, LRAA Management, Louisville Air Traffic Control staff, Louisville Airport Affairs Committee, Kentucky Air National Guard, United Parcel Service, General Aviation community at SDF, University of Louisville, Louisville Metro Government, Airport Neighbors' Alliance (ANA), Southern Indiana, and community representatives from each quadrant bounding the airport.
Meetings are open to the public, and are normally held the first Monday of each month at 6 PM, at the airport maintenance building, 700 Administration Drive, just east of the departing flights terminal. The next meeting is scheduled for January 5, 2009.
