Hours of Operation

Passenger terminal: Pre-security opens daily by 4 a.m.

TSA’s security checkpoint: 4:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Arrive Early

  • Just as highways are busier during rush hours, TSA’s security checkpoint is busier during peak departure times. At Louisville International Airport, those peak periods are daily from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Because of the sheer number of passengers departing within these periods, we encourage passengers that have flights departing during these times to arrive at the airport 1 ½ hours prior to departure.
  • Boarding passes may be printed from your home computer up to 24 hours prior to departure or obtained at the airline ticket counter, self-service electronic check-in or curbside check-in.

Airline ticket counters: Usually, an airline ticket counter opens 1 ½ hours before its first departing flight and closes after the last departing flight. (Passengers should call their airline to confirm its ticket counter and baggage-claim office hours.)

Stores and restaurants: Hours are coordinated with the scheduled times for arriving and departing flights. Certain locations open as early as 4 a.m. and close as late as midnight.

Rental car counters: Hours are coordinated with the scheduled times for arriving and departing flights. Certain locations open as early as 4:30 a.m. and close as late as 1 a.m.

Traveling with Pets

According the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), airports in the U.S. — and most everywhere else — require that dogs be kept in carriers or crates at all times. There is, however, one exception to this rule: passing through airport security. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations specify that when traveling with your pet, you’ll have to remove him from his carrier and hold him as you walk through the metal detector. The carrier — but never the dog — will be put through the X-ray machine. And bear in mind that the screeners may ask to see your dog’s boarding pass, so it’s a good idea to keep that handy.

General Services

Charging Stations Comfortable seats are stationed in Concourses A and B with AC outlets or USB ports to recharge laptops and other electronic devices.

Disability Services The terminal is handicap accessible. For people using wheelchairs, there are specially designed ramps, curbs, doors and elevators located at key locations. Elevators featuring Braille floor designations and raised control buttons assist the visually impaired. Also, service animals (see terminal map for service-animal relief areas) are permitted in the terminal buildings and on aircraft. Airline ticketing and baggage claim are also accessible. Airlines offer special escort/transport services, upon request, with wheelchair assistance provided from the curb to the security checkpoint, where two eight-passenger chauffeured electric carts and a 310-foot moving sidewalk transport passengers to and from the gates.

There are hearing-aid compatible and volume-control phones in the terminal along with a Tele Typewriter (TTY) (502-380-8297) phone located at the entrance of Concourse B. A Public Access Videophone (PAV phone) also is available in the lower level near baggage claim. The PAV phone offers Video Relay Service (VRS), video point-to-point, TTY or a traditional phone call option. All phones are wheelchair accessible. Several phones are equipped with data ports.

Handicap parking is available in the Under-4-Hour and Over-4-Hour parking garage. Handicap parking is offered at the least expensive parking rates—regardless of location. However, a handicap hang tag or license plate must be displayed on your vehicle to qualify for the least expensive rate. Please click here for a map of parking areas.
