The new Rental Car Facility at the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) recently opened following months of improvements. This milestone marks the first phase of the SDF Next Project, which includes more than $400 million in improvements to the Jerry E. Abramson Terminal and the airport’s airfield in the coming years that focuses on meeting the needs of travelers and business partners.

“This is a great moment to celebrate the first of many highlights as part of our SDF Next Project,” said Dan Mann, Executive Director of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority. “The new Rental Car Facility gives area travelers and visitors to Louisville a first-in-class experience from their aircraft to their rental car.”

The new Rental Car Facility is now conveniently located on Level 1 of the parking garage, which allows rental car companies operating at SDF to provide easily accessible covered parking with premium, grab-and-go services to their customers. Nine rental car brands currently provide service at SDF – Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Payless and Thrifty.

Improvements in the parking garage on behalf of SDF were completed by Messer Construction while enhancements specific to the individual rental car brands were completed by their own construction teams. The new Rental Car Facility along with other enabling projects such as additional airport parking combines for an investment of approximately $30 million.

“Given that approximately half of all arriving passengers in Louisville are out-of-town visitors taking advantage of services at the airport and in our community, we felt this was a top priority for the customer experience,” added Mann. “As people see the improvements and ease of use, we view this as another important way for the airport to welcome guests to our city.”

The Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport celebrated its best year ever with more than 4.2 million passengers in 2019. The airport is served by six airlines offering flights to more than 30 nonstop destinations. With just one stop, travelers from across the region can reach more than 460 destinations in the U.S. and worldwide.
