SDF NEXT UPDATE: Temporary Closure of Lower Terminal Roadway

September 4, 2020

As part of the current work on the SDF Next Project at the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF), the lower terminal roadway (baggage claim) will temporarily close to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic beginning on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 and will reopen in early October 2020. The temporary closure is necessary to complete the installation of the elevated, covered pedestrian walkways from the Jerry E. Abramson Terminal to the second level of the parking garage. This will provide travelers and airport visitors direct access to the parking garage from baggage claim.

During this time, all non-commercial passenger pick-ups will take place on the upper level roadway (check-in and valet) for all arriving passengers. In addition, ride-sharing services such as Lyft and Uber as well as public TARC bus service will also move to the upper roadway. Ride-sharing services will pick-up on the east end, directly outside the exterior doors by the Southwest Airlines ticket counter and the TARC bus will pick-up on the west end of roadway. Passengers should follow the temporary signage to the designated pick-up areas. Motorists picking-up arriving passengers should follow the signs to “Upper Level” for the upper roadway.

Taxi, limo and hotel shuttle pick-up will remain on the baggage claim level, but access for these services will be in the open lot immediately outside the doors on the terminal’s far west side, in the former rental car lot. Passengers should follow the temporary signage on the baggage claim level to these designated pick-up areas.

Access to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility and loading dock for terminal deliveries will still be permitted along the lower roadway during this time. Click here to view a roadway map for SDF.
