The inaugural video of The Video Art Project at Louisville International Airport recently launched at the airport as a continuation of the community’s input from the Terminal Enhancement Project. The art, which aims to showcase the city’s artistic expression, is showcased in four display areas that include a combined 32 high-definition video boards in the lower level baggage claim and in the post-security checkpoint connecter.
“We’re very pleased to have The Video Art Project at Louisville International Airport available for people to enjoy,” said Darrell Watson, Director of Properties and Business Development for the Louisville Regional Airport Authority. “This will allow travelers and other guests to experience and appreciate the rich arts and cultural scene of our community.”
The first installation of video work is > Electron < Electron ~ Photon by Kentucky-based artist, Valerie Sullivan Fuchs. Known for her work with video, video installation, sound, solar power and sculpture, this one channel video installation in two versions is from Fuchs’ ongoing series, Future Falls City, 2010 to the present. Using images of the Ohio River, Louisville’s surrounding land and city scape, her work imagines what kind of new structures may be discovered and how that may inform the future universe and transports to other worlds. The Video Art Project at Louisville International Airport will allow artists to submit annual proposals for future exhibitions at the airport that inspire ideas about the city, region and state.
