Passenger Traffic Increases for Independence Day at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport
July 2, 2025

A strong summer at the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) continues heading into the Fourth of July. Scheduled capacity for this year’s holiday weekend is up significantly compared to the previous year with a 5% increase.
“We expect the July 4th weekend to be one of the busiest in recent years as SDF sees a very strong demand for air service from the region’s travelers,” said Dan Mann, Executive Director of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority. “The robust summer schedule from the airlines continues to take passengers to their favorite vacation destinations, especially with the addition of several nonstop flights at SDF that were not offered this time last year. We feel confident about the summer trends and look forward to carrying this momentum into the second half of 2025.”
From Thursday, July 3 through Sunday, July 6, the eight airlines at SDF have scheduled more than 36,000 departing seats. The busiest day is Sunday, July 6 with nearly 10,000 outbound seats, followed by Thursday, July 3 with nearly 9,300 departing seats. For the four days combined, there are more than 315 scheduled departing flights.
New this summer are new flights from Breeze Airways to Raleigh-Durham (RDU) and Fort Myers (RSW) while Spirit Airlines has expanded with service to Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), Detroit (DTW) and Newark (EWR). Plus, Southwest Airlines launches new, nonstop service to Nashville (BNA) on Tuesday, August 5.
Each year, SDF serves more Kentuckians than any other airport in the Commonwealth and has experienced four of its Top 5 best years to date since 2018. Last year was the airport’s single busiest year yet with more than 4.8 million total passengers, while in 2023, SDF was the fastest growing airport of the Top 100 airports in the continental U.S. for passenger service.
