Airport Authority Honored by Greater Louisville Inc.

February 14, 2017

The Louisville Regional Airport Authority was recently honored by Greater Louisville Inc. (GLI), the local chamber of commerce, for new nonstop air service and enhancements to the Jerry E. Abramson Terminal at Louisville International Airport (SDF).

“The past year has been exciting for us with improvements to the terminal and the addition of new air service routes,” said C.T. “Skip” Miller, Executive Director of the Airport Authority. “We are honored that GLI recognized the hard work of our Board of Directors, staff and airport business partners.” The $9.5 million Terminal Enhancement Project – aimed at showcasing what makes Louisville unique and special – touched the majority of the facility’s 185,000 square feet of public space and included new terrazzo flooring, new center-core escalators, wall treatments and art and other graphics.

In addition, concessionaires HMS Host (food-and-beverage) and Paradies Lagardère (gift-and news) invested more than $8.5 million combined in improvements to the terminal’s food outlets and retail shops. In addition to the terminal improvements, service to seven destinations from Louisville International was announced in the past year. The first of these came in the summer from the GLI Regional Air Service Coalition in conjunction with the Airport Authority for nonstop service to Pittsburgh on OneJet. Most recently, Allegiant Air announced six new, nonstop routes from Louisville beginning in May. Year-round service on Allegiant will be available to Florida vacation destinations Fort Lauderdale, Fort Meyers-Punta Gorda, Orlando-Sanford and Tampa-St. Pete. Seasonal routes to Destin-Fort Walton Beach, Florida and Savannah, Georgia will also be available.
