American Airlines Launches Second, Nonstop Flight to Boston

April 5, 2023

Additional flight is part of increased capacity by Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport’s largest carrier

Less than a year after beginning its inaugural service, American Airlines launches the second daily flight to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) today from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF). The additional flight gives the region’s travelers even more options to reach the Northeast.

“American’s growth at SDF has been tremendous, as has the market’s response,” said Dan Mann, Executive Director for the Louisville Regional Airport Authority. “For the second quarter in 2023, scheduled capacity at SDF is record setting. As Louisville’s largest carrier with the most flights and capacity, we applaud their continued investment in our airport.”

This new flight to Boston departs Louisville at 6:30 a.m. and returns at 9:40 p.m., nicely complimenting the initial flight’s midafternoon departure and arrival. Both daily flights are offered on a 76-seat Embraer 175 complete with dual-class seating, Wi-Fi and the widest Economy seat class of any aircraft.

“Doubling frequency on a route less than one year after its launch is a testament to the route’s performance and a significant vote of confidence in Louisville,” added Anthony Gilmer, Vice President of Air Service Development and Strategic Marketing. “American is a great partner and a significant contributor to our record-breaking growth.”

American’s capacity for the second quarter is up 35% compared to last year. This is substantial because that is 5% above 2019, the airport’s best year to date. In the last year, American launched service to Boston as well upgrading service to mainline aircraft for many of the flights to Charlotte, Dallas and Miami.

From Louisville, American offers nonstop service to eight destinations including Boston (BOS), Charlotte (CLT), Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Dallas/Ft. Worth (DFW), Miami (MIA), New York-LaGuardia (LGA), Philadelphia (PHL) and Washington, D.C.-Reagan National (DCA). Tickets to Boston or any of American’s destinations are available at www.AA.com.
