Noise Compatibility Program

Part 150 Update

The Louisville Regional Airport Authority is updating the Airport Noise Compatibility Program for the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF), which is the next part of the airport’s Part 150 Update. The Part 150 Update outlines the procedures, standards and methodology governing the development, submission and review of the noise exposure map and noise compatibility program.

What’s the difference? A noise exposure map identifies the levels of airport noise in areas around an airport while the noise compatibility program defines those measures designed to reduce the identified noise and incompatible land uses within the noise exposure area.

The previous phase of SDF’s Part 150 Update related to updating the Airport Noise Exposure Map (NEM), which was submitted to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on December 23, 2024. This next step of the process – the Noise Compatibility Program Update (NCP Update) – will look at the measures to help mitigate noise exposure related to the airport. This page will serve as a resource for the NCP Update phase of this process.

The NCP Update phase evaluates and recommends potential measures to address incompatible land uses identified in the 2024 Noise Exposure Map. At the end of the process, the Airport Authority will submit an updated NCP to the FAA with measures they recommend to address the incompatible land uses identified in the 2024 Noise Exposure Map.
