SDF NEXT UPDATE: East Parking Tunnel Temporarily Closed

February 20, 2020

East Parking Tunnel to reopen in Summer 2020 following upgrades

Work continues on the SDF Next Project at the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) that focuses on meeting the needs of the airport’s growing customer base. This project will see an investment of more than $200 million in the Jerry E. Abramson Terminal in the coming years.

As part of the current work, the East Parking Tunnel that connects the parking garage to the terminal is now temporarily closed due to construction. The elevators on the parking garage’s East Side remain available for patron use between Levels 2, 3 and 4. The East Parking Tunnel will reopen in Summer 2020 once the relocation of the rental cars is complete on Level 1 of the parking garage.

The West Parking Tunnel remains open for access between the parking garage and terminal as well as providing pedestrian access to the Surface Lot. The West Side elevators also remain available for access between Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the parking garage.

Improvements to the East Parking Tunnel include removal of the moving sidewalks and the installation of terrazzo flooring. In addition, a new ceiling, enhanced lighting fixtures and upgrades to the mechanical and electrical systems in this area are also included in this project. These major aesthetic improvements will help SDF shine bright as a proud gateway to the community.

The Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport just celebrated its best year ever with more than 4.2 million passengers in 2019. The airport is served by six airlines offering flights to more than 30 nonstop destinations including 19 of the region’s top 20 domestic markets. With just one stop, travelers from across the region can reach more than 460 destinations in the U.S. and worldwide.
