Southwest Airlines Announces New, Nonstop Service to Atlanta

May 28, 2020

Southwest Airlines recently announced new nonstop service between Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) beginning Thursday, December 17, 2020. The airline will operate the flight three-times daily using a Boeing 737 aircraft with 143 to 175 seats.

“This announcement by Southwest is a bright spot for Louisville and SDF,” said Dan Mann, Executive Director of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority. “Thanks to the strong community support, Southwest has continued to invest in Louisville in recent years and the fact they are doing so in the midst of this worldwide crisis speaks to the strength of our market.”

With this announcement, Southwest now offers nonstop flights to 11 destinations from Louisville including Baltimore, Chicago-Midway, Dallas-Love Field, Denver, Fort Lauderdale, Houston-Hobby, Las Vegas, Orlando, Phoenix and Tampa. Tickets are now available at www.southwest.com.

“Recognizing the economic hit that the airline and travel industry faced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are excited that Southwest is committing further to the Louisville market by introducing this new route to Atlanta,” said Mayor Greg Fischer. “This route will give travelers flying out of Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport another option as they travel to other destinations in December and beyond.”

The Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport is served by six airlines offering flights to more than 30 nonstop destinations, including 19 of the region’s top 20 domestic markets. With just one stop, travelers from across the region can reach more than 460 destinations in the U.S. and worldwide.
