October 1, 2020

New Routes to Fort Myers and Atlanta launch for Holiday Travel

Southwest Airlines continues to grow its presence at the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF). The airline recently announced they will launch new, nonstop service to Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) in Fort Myers just in time for holiday travel. Service will be offered during peak travel days surrounding Thanksgiving as well as Christmas and New Year’s.

In addition, Southwest announced its new nonstop service to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) will now launch six weeks earlier on Wednesday, November 4, 2020. This flight will operate twice daily using a Boeing 737 aircraft with 143 or 175 seats.

“This is great news for Louisville and a very good sign that our airport continues to see positive gains from Southwest,” said Dan Mann, Executive Director of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority. “The launch of two new routes from the airline just in time for holiday travel really speaks to the strength of our market. We appreciate Southwest’s on-going investment at SDF, especially as the travel industry continues to navigate our way through a worldwide health crisis.”

With today’s announcement of Fort Myers, this marks 12 destinations that Southwest serves from Louisville – the highest number of destinations the airline has flown from SDF since first launching service in 1993. Additional nonstop Southwest flights from SDF include Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago-Midway, Dallas-Love Field, Denver, Fort Lauderdale, Houston-Hobby, Las Vegas, Orlando, Phoenix and Tampa. Tickets are available for purchase at www.Southwest.com.

The Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport is served by six airlines offering flights to more than 30 nonstop destinations, including 19 of the region’s top 20 domestic markets. With just one stop, travelers from across the region can reach more than 460 destinations in the U.S. and worldwide.
