Construction Begins on Woodlawn Overpass

January 25, 2016

Dear Neighbor: On behalf of the Airport Authority board and staff, thank you again for your patience during the Crittenden Drive Relocation Project. As you recall, the project was necessary to construct Taxiway A, which allows Louisville International to handle the newest 21st-century aircraft—helping retain and attract even more aviation-related companies and jobs for our community. The map to the right highlights in yellow the third (and final) phase of the project. At this time, we expect to begin preliminary construction activities on February 1. The project will take about a year to complete. The improvements include:

• Re-surfacing Allmond Avenue with a new asphalt-wearing surface

• Installing curb-line drainage improvements and repairing select pavement areas

• Replacing the existing bridge (in the same general location)

The new bridge will be constructed in a carefully phased manner to minimize the impact to traffic on the overpass. However, Strawberry Lane will be closed to through traffic from Allmond Ave. to East Wellington Ave. and there will be intermittent lane closures of the Woodlawn Overpass and Allmond Ave. HNTB designed the project and Hall Contracting is constructing this phase, which is expected to cost approximately $4.8 million.
