Southwest Launches Nonstop Service to Atlanta

November 4, 2020

Inaugural flight celebration included cookies and new this year, branded face masks

Southwest Airlines launched its inaugural flight to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) from the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) today. Announced in May 2020, the twice daily service is Southwest’s 12th nonstop destination from SDF and will be aboard the spacious Boeing 737 aircraft. Southwest joins Delta Air Lines with nonstop flights to this popular destination.

“We are delighted to offer travelers more options as we enter the holiday travel season,” said Dan Mann, Executive Director of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority. “Demand for air travel is returning and although it won’t be as robust as last year, we are encouraged by the trend. Southwest is an exceptional partner and their confidence in the market is evidenced by their expansion to both Atlanta and Fort Myers.”

The Airport Authority celebrated with passengers at the gate. The swag was a bit different this time, as travelers were treated to SDF-branded hand sanitizer and face masks, a nod to the airport’s commitment to safe travel. The usual fresh-baked cookies were offered too.
