How the LRAA is Funded
The LRAA is an autonomous municipal corporation established by KY state statue. The LRAA is responsible for owning, operating and developing Louisville’s two major airports.
The forerunner of the LRAA was established in 1928 by the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s General Assembly and was the first authority-type governed airport in the United States.
Think of the LRAA like a private corporation that is self-funded and receives operating revenue from a wide variety of user fees.
However, the LRAA receives no local or state funding for any of the necessary routine operations at SDF and LOU.
